EXPLANATION.

The expenditure has been estimated in excess of what it

should be if the Company is operated in the most economical man-

ner, and although the fares are considerably in excess of sur face

transport fares, they are very low when the considerable saving

of time is considered.

In fact in certain cases the passenger can make an

actual cash saving by making use of the Air Routes.

During the first two or three years it is unreasonable

to suppose that full loads will be carriel, but as soon as the

'Public' become air-minded there is no reason why full loads

should not be obtained.

The sooner the Company can extend it's services and

employ more machines the sooner will it be able to operate with-

out assistance from any Government, this point is illustrated in

the following figures which assume that two return journeys are

made to Shanghai instead of one, in each weck.

The actual extra operational costs for this extra

service being:

Insurance and Depreciation on Canberra

No.4 (an extra Machine) at 20 p.c.

Pay for two extra Pilots at $7,000.00

per annum each.

Bonus pay for 300 hours at $5.00 per Hr.

Petrol and Cil for 1300 hours at $26.00

per hour.

Interest on extra capital for extra

Canberra at 5 p.c. on $63,000.00

If the income for this M/c. is estimated on the sane lines as Canberra No.II
